Week ending 3rd May

Welcome to this weeks blog. We have had a busy week using the text 'The Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson. We have listened to the story several times and are able to retell the main events in the story. We have used the internet to answer questions we have about snails and whales. We read postcards the snail wrote about her travels and then we have wrote postcards, thinking about places the snail and the whale went to.

In Maths we have been looking at the composition of numbers. We have been thinking about 6, 7, 8 and 9 as '5 and a bit'. We have used one hand to show 5 and our other hand to show the 'bit' more to make numbers bigger than 5. We have looked at the composition of 5 and recorded all the ways to make 5. We used the fingers on one hand to work them out. We sang a rhyme 5 little kittens, jumping on a bed, every time a kitten fell off the bed we folded a finger down and looked how many fingers are up and how many are down but there are always 5.

We have looked at shapes and used 2D shapes to make pictures.

We've had a lot of creative activities based on snails, we have drawn snails and looked at a real snails shell, we have cut out snails and we have dot painted a snail.

We've had lots of fun activities in our continuous provision.

We've been continuing our team game skills with Mr Ellis and been getting lots of exercise.

We had our 'Writing Stay and Play' on Thursday and Friday. It was lovely to welcome our adults into our classroom to see how we are learning to write and develop our skills. Thank you to the adults that came.

Next week, we will be continuing to use the text 'The Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson to further our learning. If you would like to listen to it again please click the link.

Have a lovely long weekend and enjoy the Bank Holiday.
