week ending 6th May 2022

Hello and a warm welcome back to our class blog. This week we have been using the story of Zog to help us with our learning. We started the week off by listening to the story and talking about the things we have done that have made us feel proud. We had so many wonderful examples. Definitely stars smiley

We looked at the settings in the story and discovered that one of them is a castle. We looked at pictures, talked about features and then had a go at making our own castle using different materials. Amazing isn't is?

We also noticed that in the picture there was a scarecrow. On out last visit to the ALPS we talked about making a scarecrow to scare off the birds and we discovered that our newly planted planter would be a good place for it to leave. So meet Tommy, our class scarecrow smiley

We are very proud of the effort, the discussions and the problem solving we had to do in order to create him. I am sure you'll agree he's pretty amazing

In Year 1 of Dragon School Zog learned how to fly. We used our problem solving skills to help him fly. We explored, changed materials and worked together to create a zip line for Zog. The children were fascinated and amazed in equal measure to see him soar through the air.  Just like in Dragon School we received a badge showing we had passed year 1 of Dragon School yes

We also explored different materials to see which we thought would be best for Sir Gadabout's armour. We used water to test out things like bubble wrap, foil, paper and fabric to see which was strongest and which was best for keeping him safe. Great work everyone smiley

We also set up our estimation station. The children loved exploring, predicting and checking to see if their estimate was correct. More to come on this next week.

Next week we will be using the text The Smartest Giant in Town. Why not check your bookcase to see if you have it at home? Or have a little look on the Internet with your grown up and see if you can watch and listen to the story before Monday?

Have a great weekend
