week ending 8th December 2023

Hello and a warm welcome back to this weeks class blog. It might have been a chilly week but it's been perfect weather for our learning all about the Artic smiley

Let's have a little look at this weeks fun activities. As always on a Monday we set the classroom up with lots of lovely invitations to come and play. These are opportunities for children to explore all about the focus for the weeks through interactions with different experiences

One of our main teaching points this week has been to expose children to the fact that we can use the Internet to find out information. So we have been using the Internet to learn more about Artic animals. We found out about different animals and where they live, what they eat and how they survive in extreme temperature. Take a look at our findings yes

We have also been embracing the cold inside. We have written some of the words from Read Write Inc word time onto icicles and we have been practising them using our Fred Talk and read skills. Here we are developing our reading smiley

In keeping with this weeks focus we have been exploring ice. We have held it, used it to paint with and used developed our speech and language when describing what we can see when the colours mix together. This was a lovely opportunity to explore colour mixing with different materials smiley

We have also been exploring the different ways we could freeze the animals trapped in the ice. We predicted, tested and discussed what we could see and which source was best to melt the ice. We discovered that the hair dryer blowing hot air was the quickest way to melt the ice. Ask your child about the experiment yes

In continuous provision we have had the challenge of using different art materials to create images of Artic animals - take a look at this lovely example. Great observational drawing! We have also been tasked with using different materials to create habitats for Artic animals - what a lovely example. Well done everyone smiley

In Maths this week we have been learning all about 4 and not 4. This has involved lots of counting! Here we are sorting numbers into two groups - those that are 4 and those that are not 4. Again this is a great idea for developing number recognition at home.

Next week we will be learning using the story This Zoo is not for you. Please click on the link below to listen to the story before Monday. And we will be performing our eagerly awaited nativity next week. If you haven't had a chance to get your tickets please do so as soon as possible, we really do not want you to miss out. You're in for a real treat smiley
