Week ending 9th February

Welcome to the blog. This week we have been reading the story, 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. We've enjoyed the magic of the elves in the story. The children have been thinking about questions they would like to ask a character from the story and think about what their answer might be. We have also completed book reviews, the children had to think about whether they liked the story or not and give a reason why, a lot of children liked how the elves helped the shoemaker and made him happy. We also thought about what different characters we could change the elves into. We've been very busy.

In Maths this week we have been looking at quantities and comparing who has more and who has fewer, for example Pat has 2 objects and Sam has 4 objects, so we have used the sentences - Sam has more than Pat and Pat has fewer than Sam. We have also looked at how the size and colour of objects don't change the amount of objects we have. We have also been comparing our heights, the children all stood against the wall and we drew a line to mark their height so we could see who was taller and who was shorter.

We've also been very creative this week. We practised our scissor cutting skills by colouring shoes to be beautiful like the elves made and then cut them out like the shoemaker cut the leather. We have collaged elf pictures to give them lovely new clothes like the shoemaker gave the elves. We have used pastel crayons to give the elves bright clothes. We have looked at the features of real shoes and drawn pictures of them.

We've had lots of other activities going on, many of them based on 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. We've had play dough tasks, funky fingers activities, sand play, role play, small world, construction, pattern making, shape sorting and lots more.

We also have lots of fun outside on the playground.

Miss Sherriff came into school to see the adults with her beautiful little girls, Thea and Florence. They had lots of cuddles. It was lovely to see Miss Sherriff and her gorgeous girls.

Next week we will be looking at the story 'The Runaway Pancake'. If you would like to look at the story, please click the link below.

Have a lovely weekend.
