Welfare Requirements

“Children learn best when they are healthy, safe and secure,

when their individual needs are met and when they have positive

relationships with the adults caring for them.”

(Curriculum Guidance)

It is important to us that all children in the school are ‘safe’. We aim to provide children with the skills required for future with a tool kit of life skills. Children should be allowed to take risks in a safe environment but need to be taught how to recognise and avoid hazards (see the whole school safeguarding policy).

At Westfield we fully adhere to the welfare requirements, which we understand to be a statutory requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage 2020. We endeavour to meet all these requirements and have several smaller policies in place, which will ensure that this takes place (see safeguarding board in staff rooms and whole school website for detailed safeguarding policies).

An annual Welfare Requirement Audit is completed to ensure practice is the best possible and any new Early Years Staff members receive this important information as part of their induction to Foundation Stage.
