10th October

This week our text of the week has the title 'A New Home for a Pirate'

Jed was a pirate, but he hated how the boat bobbed on the sea and it made him feel sick.  He wanted to find a new home.  We accessed some pirate themed activities that made us feel challenged and successful!

We also accessed literacy activities to practise drawing and writing.  We are beginning to hear sounds in words, write our own names and develop a comfortable pencil grip

In Maths this week, we have been learning about weight (Heavy and Light) and also repeating patterns.

Here we are accessing the activities in provision to support our learning.

We also enjoyed learning about capacity.  We couldn't believe that a shorter container could hold more water than a tall container but the tall container was narrow so it held less! The children's language skills to describe capacity have improved greatly this week.

In Read, Write, Inc we learned the new sounds

The children in bucket time had a wonderful experience of taking off the top and scooping out the egg when learning 'e'

This week's Star of the Week is Oliver.  He has soldiered on this week, continuing to be a kind and patient friend and working as hard as he always does despite being a little poorly.

Our dojo winner is Georgia for gaining a massive 14 dojo's in one week!

Our texts for the next two weeks are based around Autumn.  We are beginning to notice the changes in the environment and have really enjoyed searching for sycamore seeds on the playground to throw up in the air and watch them spin.  Some children took them into the climbing frame to throw from as high as possible!

Our text next week will be We're going on a Leaf Hunt'

You can watch it here in preparation for the learning ahead.
