12th September

This week in Reception we have begun our Maths and Literacy lessons.

In Maths we met one, two and three numberblocks.  They showed us where they live and we had to spot one, two and three things on and around their houses.

We could see windows, trees, levels/ rooms in the house and on number three's house he has triangle windows because a triangle has three sides!

We also had a challenge of making '3'

If we completed the challenge we got a dojo!

We practised 1,2 and 3 counting and matching in the provision

In Literacy, we read the story 'Starting School'

In the story there are some things the same and some things different to our school.  They have a pet rabbit, but we don't.  They call the carpet, the 'mat' but we call it the 'carpet'.  They go to hall for singing practise and say prayers, but we don't.  They have dinner at school and so do we!  They have painting and a book corner and so do we!

The children enjoyed creating story maps and finding letters in the text that we have learned in Read, Write, Inc.

Other parts of our day are filled with fun too!

We like to dance to the 'Tooty Ta' before lunch.  Here is the link to the video so that you can learn the 'Tooty Ta' too.

Just after lunchtime, which is a very busy time of day for the children, we like to calm down in the classroom by breathing with Pipsi.

We also celebrate 'Star of the Week' on Fridays.

Sophie giraffe watches and listens to the children all week. You may have spotted her on your 'Our First Day'  photographs!

On Friday, Mrs Rothwell asks her who she thinks is the 'Star of the Week'.  She chooses somebody who has been following our school's mission statement of HOPE.

H- High expectations (we work hard and act sensibly in our classrooms)

O- Opportunity (we engage with the activities and provision for learning)

P- Progress (our achievements are celebrated and we celebrate with each other)

E- Enjoyment (we have fun! and make sure we allow others to have fun too)

yesThis week, Mohamed won the award!  Well done Mohamed! yes

We are also collecting dojo's every day!

The person with the most dojo's this week was Theo!  Great job Theo!

Next week we will be reading the story 'Marvellous Me' as our text of the week.  If you would like to hear the story, you can access it here.

Please remember to sign your child's reading record and bring their books back to school to be changed on Friday.

See you on Monday....(we are looking forward to celebrating Finley's birthday!)
