14th November

This week we have used the text 'Commotion in the Ocean' to further our learning and understanding about different animals in the world.  Ocean animals are fascinating and we found out more facts during our Literacy lessons.  We used the internet to research information and wrote down our findings.

Our continuous provision maths activities were also focussed around Under the Sea animals.  Mrs Rothwell was very pleased with the children who tried the number challenge.  They used their funky fingers to squeeze the correct amount of pegs onto the numbered fish

We used our creative skills to make under the sea animals from clay.  Mrs Rothwell showed us how to create a 'slip' from water and clay which acts like glue to make sure the parts we connect did not fall off.  We painted them on Friday to take home.  This is something we will re-visit later in the term as our animals were not 'whole' by the end of the drying process!

Fred Frog (the mascot for Read, Write Inc.) left us a little surprise in the classroom on Wednesday!

We now have a laptop and headphones so that we can access the RWI portal to help us retain the letter sounds we have learned.

We use the portal daily to help us say the sound, blend the sounds into word and recall them quickly. Remember to use the QR codes sent home to practice. It really does make a difference.

On Tuesday, we 'remembered'.  We made poppies using a variety of craft resources and held them as we took part in the national two minute silence.  We watched a Remembrance video clip on CBeebies for the duration of the silence and observed it beautifully.

Three boys have really enjoyed using the mobilo this week.  They have been showing other children in the classroom how to create vehicles by joining pieces together.  Things got a little competitive on Thursday as the tried to make the 'longest' vehicle.  Mohamed has also learned how to create folding vehicles- it looks small then it unfurls into an amazing aeroplane with wings!

On Friday we wore our own clothes to raise money for the charity 'Children In Need'  We enjoyed taking part in Pudsey themed activities in the classroom as we wound down towards the weekend.

This week's Star of the Week is Lucy.  She has been working hard this week to develop her skills in self-care and independence.  We are very proud of you Lucy.

Our dojo winner is Julia.  Julia is always one of the first children to hand in her homework, try the challenges in the classroom and is always ready to learn at carpet time.  Well done Julia, keep up the good work!

Next week, we will continue our learning about animals and habitats by exploring the book 'What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside'.  This book is written by Julia Donaldson, a very well known children's author.  If you would like to listen to the story before Monday, please click the link below
