19th September

This week in Reception, our Text Of the Week was 'Marvellous Me' (show me those jazz hands!)

The children thought about what makes them 'marvellous' and drew pictures to represent this

They had a look at a page from the story and found the letters that we have been learning in Read, Write, inc.  This week we have learned to read and write

                  m          a         s        d          t

In Maths this week we have been learning to count with our ears!  Yes, our ears!  Mrs Rothwell banged on the drum and we had to count how many bangs she made.  On Friday, we learned different ways of making marks to represent each bang.  At the end, we could count the marks to find out how many there were.

In the playground, Presley-Rae, Penny, Julia and some friends from Mrs Evans' classroom enjoyed making the bangs on the poles and running to find the correct number which was chalked on the floor.  Excellent work everyone!

We also mastered what we had learned last week independently in the provision.

We had a special challenge in the painting area this week.  We copied patterns from pattern cards using black paint and a paintbrush.  Our patterns are now proudly on display in the classroom.  They look 'Marvellous'

We have had some other 'Marvellous' things to celebrate this week!

This amazing morris dancer received a medal at the weekend for leading her troop

Our dojo winner this week!

and finally, our Star Of the Week (chosen by Sophie giraffe and Mrs Rothwell) for always being a kind friend!

Next week, our Text of the Week will be 'On The Way Home' by the author Jill Murphy.
