We have had a wonderful week of learning in Year 1. We have been busy continuing our topic of first steps by learning more about different astronauts and even watching the two stranded astronauts return to Earth and landing in Florida.
English
In English we have continued our class text 'How to catch a star’. We been exploring this text in a set of instructions. Looking at how the boy needed different equipment to find his own star. We have come up with our own ideas of ways to catch a star by making our own list what we will need.
Maths
In Maths this week we have been been exploring length. We have use practical equipment such as cubes as a non-standard measure. Wew have measured a range of items that we found in our classroom.
Science
In Science we have been thinking more about materials. We have used our previous learning to design a space suit that would perfect for an astronauts journey into space. We have thought hard of how the materials we choose must be suitable for for good movement and being able to see through a helmet.
Topic
This week we have learnt more about significant astronauts. We researched and learnt all about Helen Sharman. We learnt about her life and how she became an astronaut after hearning an advert on the radio. We took part in a question and answer session with Helen Sharman through Zoom where she told us lost of interesting facts about space and showed us lots of fabulous pictures.
