Literacy
This week we read the traditional tale 'The Enormous Turnip'
We thought about words that are similar to the word 'enormous'
'Gigantic' Theo
'Huge' Finley
'Big' Ruby
'It's not like tiny, its bigger, bigger, bigger!' Marlie
We created individual story maps and ordered the characters as they appear in the story.
Expressive Art and Design
Mrs Baggaley helped us to represent illustrations from the book by using paint. We painted the characters and, most importantly, the TURNIP!
The little robin who eventually helps pull the turnip from the ground was painted by Lilly-Anne and is the cutest robin we have ever seen!
Maths
We have begun to think about how 5 is composed. We know that you can make 5 by adding
5 and 0
4 and 1
3 and 2
We also enjoyed comparing numbers using the greater than and less than symbols that children had observed in the Numberblocks series.
Our Star Of the Week is Finley and our dojo winner is also Finley!!
Well done on a fantastic week in Reception.
This week's lucky two who has juice and a story with Mrs Houghton for having a good week in class and standing out in something that they did were Seth and Isla.
Well done you two. It is a pleasure to see you so happy in our classroom!
Next week, we will be reading and learning about the traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs'.
You can watch it here.
Please remember to continue the great work you have begun with your child at home supporting them with reading. The letter formation sheets, green words and storybooks for Read, Write, Inc. are supporting them on their journey to becoming a competent reader. If you would like any further information about what you can be doing with your child, please speak to Mrs Rothwell. Children develop at different rates and Mrs Rothwell will be able to give you clear direction of how to best support your child.
Thanks and see you all next week
