24th October

This week in Recpetion we have been reading the text 'Leaf Man'.

The leaf man changed so many times throughout the book dependent on how the leaves landed after the wind had blown them.

We spotted so many different animals!  We had a go at making our own 'Leaf Man' using the wonderful leaves that the children had brought to school on their morning walk or that Mrs Evans had collected for us (thank you Mrs Evans!)

We had lots of opportunities to access the invitations to play in the environment.  We have been a little tired after a very busy first half term, so we loosened the structure a little bit and enjoyed playing with the grown ups and our friends.

In our maths learning, we have focused upon the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.  We could name basic 2D shapes from our previous learning, but we learned names of 3D shapes such as cylinder, sphere (not SOPHIA!), cube, cuboid and triangular prism (not prison....)

We then looked around the classroom for shapes we knew and had a very exciting bucket time incorporating toys that were shaped like the 3D shapes.  The cylindrical tube with the pop up snake was a firm favourite!

This week's Star Of The Week is Julia.

We are very proud of her and how hard she has worked in this first half term.  She is a delight to have in our classroom, a wonderful friend to so many children and is always ready and willing to work to her highest potential.  Well done Julia.

Next week is half term.  We hope you all manage to have a restful time and enjoy the time you spend together.  We know how hard all of our families work to make sure your children are here and on time everyday.  We have really enjoyed building the bedrock for our relationships with the children and yourselves and we look forward to another half term in the lead up to Christmas, with more opportunities to share the wonderful work that your child is doing every day.
