This week in Reception we have read the story 'On The Way Home'
The children enjoyed taking part in activities such as making a story map, re-telling the story using pictures and collecting lots of dojo's for remembering parts of the story.
In Maths, we continued to subitise. This means recognising what we see without actually counting! We are getting quite good at seeing the amount and saying it!
We also met number 4 numberblock and learned about the different ways numberblock 4 can move their blocks to create new body shapes. The children enjoyed representing this through continuous provision activities.
In Read, Write inc. we have learned 4 new sounds..... i, n, p and g
The children took part in writing sessions and small world play all about the sound we learned that day.
At tidy up time on Wednesday, we spotted something unusual in the sky. It was a hot-air balloon! We all came outside to see it and discussed if we would like to be that high in the sky or not.
We have enjoyed the outdoors when the weather has been kind to us. We enjoy playing the baby game, dancing, building dens and finding letters and numbers in the learning environment.
We also had our first fire alarm practice this week. The children made the adults very proud as they sensibly exited the school building and waited patiently to return. We explained how important this is and why we need to do this. The children demonstrated very mature attitudes and listened perfectly to the adults.
On Friday we had our first official school photograph taken. Again, the children were a credit to the school and to you as they waited their turn and smiled saying' cheesy chips!'
Next week, we will be reading the story 'In Every House on Every Street' as our text of the week. We will also be learning even more sounds in Read, Write, Inc. This weeks sounds will be o, c, k, u and b.
You can listen to Harry Styles read our text of the week here:
See if you can spot the rhyming words! We will be getting dojo's for this next week.
See you all on Monday
