Kung Hei Fat Choi!
and also Ramadan Murbarak to our families in Reception F who are a part of the holy month.
This week in Reception we have been learning about the Lunar New Year. We read the story 'The Great Race' and found our year of birth in the Chinese Zodiac. We were born in the year of the 'rat' (2020) or the 'ox' (2021).
We researched the traits of these animals in the zodiac story and found that the 'rat' is intelligent and cunning. The 'ox' is strong and dependable.
We created a story map of the 'Great Race' on Monday
We also made a lucky red envelope. These are given to children by family members at Lunar New Year and they usually have money inside! The children thought the patterns on the envelopes were beautiful.
In Maths, we learned about one more and one less than a number. We looked at the representations of numbers in stacked cubes. We could see that if the stacks of bloxks were placed next to each other, like a numberline, they increased by one each time and made a staircase pattern.
In the provision, we practised what we had learned last week by recording a whole number and it's parts.
We also had fun in the provision, exploring Lunar New Year activities and fine tuning our maths and literacy skills
The Star of the Week this week was Oscar! Well done
Our dojo winner was Theo with a whopping 17 dojos this week! Amazing!
Next week we will be learning about 'growing'.
We will learn through the text 'Jasper's Beanstalk'. This is one of Mrs Rothwell's favourite stories!
You can watch it here for a head start on the week
We will see you all on Monday
