Another fabulous week Year 1. We have strarted the new topic of First Steps this week where we are investigating materials and learning all about space.
English
In English we have started a new class story of 'The Way Back Home’. We have read the story and learnt the model text. Creating a story map along with focusing on the connective ‘and’. We have come up with adjectives to help describe before writing the text ourselves.
Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning all about time. We have thought hard about the order of our daily activities: thinking about wether they happen in the day or at night time. We have looked at the face of a clock. Using a circle and adding the numbers 1-12 along with a long and short hand. We have started to investigate hours, minutes and seconds. Thinking of daily activities and how we would time these.
Science
In Science our new topic has introduced us to materials. We have been thinking of how we can describe different materials. Such as rough, smooth, and shiny. We have also learnt about a significant sicientist: Helen Sharman who was the first British woman in space.
Topic
This week we have learnt all about the space race. Looking at how space travel has changed: from first sending fruit flies and animals into space to man walking on the Moon and visiting the ISS.
What a busy week!
