'The Three Little Pigs' has proven very popular with children this week in Reception.
We read the story then acted it out through 'helicopter stories'. This is an approach that promotes oracy through storytelling and drama.
The children found it very funny when the wolf burned his bottom in the hot pot of water made by the pigs at the end of the story!
We have loved the role play area set up as a building yard. The wolf came by every so often and 'blew down' the houses (but, as we are such good friends in Reception F, he asked first!)
In Literacy, we enjoyed innovating the story
'The Three Little Princesses'- Marlie
'The Three Little Pigs and a Big, Bad Dragon'- Theo
'Three Little pigs and a beautiful cat'- Isla
'Three little mice and a big, bad cat'- Lilly-Anne
We also wrote lists of what the pigs needed to build their home. Some of our work is displayed in the classroom for you to see when we have our Stay and Play sessions on the 10th and 11th of February.
In Maths, we learned about 6 and 7. It was a fun week for the children who know the meme! We learned that 6 is 'five and one more' and 7 is 'five and two more' OR 'six and one more'
We explored different ways to make 6 and 7 (!) and recorded this.
On Friday, we learned about 3D shapes. We can now name 'cube' and 'cylinder' confidently and went on a shape hunt around the classroom
We 'talked to a friend', by using the shoulder partner strategy, in our carpet session about how many faces the 3D shapes have. It was quite tricky at first to call a cube 'cube' instead of square. We discusses that a cube has 6 square faces but when they are all together, it is a cube! We are beginning to understand this and will practice this more next week through use of magnetic tiles and 3D shape nets.
Next week, our text of the week is 'Little Red Riding Hood'
We will be comparing the traditional tales we have read so far, considering the characters, settings and what happens at the beginning, middle and end. For example, the Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood have a big, bad wolf BUT Jack and the beanstalk has a giant.
You can watch the story here:
This week's dojo winners were Mohamed and Lilly-Anne and our Star of the Week was Penny!
Well done for working hard, listening carefully and being a good friend.
See you all on Monday!
