4th April

Good morning everyone and welcome to our final blog for the Spring term! We can't believe it's our Easter holidays already!

Maths - This week the children have been investigating finding the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes. In Maths, a rectilinear shape is made up of straight lines. A square and a rectangle are both rectilinear. They have also investigated compound shapes. A composite or compound shape is any shape that is made up of two or more geometric shapes. The red shape below is made up of a square and a triangle. The blue shape is made up of a square and a rectangle. The green shape consists of two triangles.

English - The children have been writing their own persuasive text about The ALPS in school. They have included lots of Y5 writing objectives including modal verbs, parenthesis and relative clauses. Click on the links below for an explanation and a video on how to use these features in writing...

Our certificate winner this week is All of 5W for a fantastic spring assembly. You spoke and sang beautifully, making everyone extremely proud.

In addition...

Our Easter Egg Competition winner was Oliver for his HUGE Brick Community Stadium.

That's all for this term from 5W. We hope you have a relaxing break and that the Easter Bunny pays you all a visit with some chocolate eggs. School reopens on Tuesday 29th April. We look forward to seeing you all then for the start of the Summer term.
