It is such a familiar conversation we hear at then end of the school day. You ask your child what they have been doing today.....they say "I don't know or "I can't remember"! Let us tell you, they are doing and learning so much every day.
This week we used the traditional tale 'Little Red Riding Hood' to theme our Literacy learning. The children sorted pictures into 'Little Red Riding Hood' and not 'Little Red Riding Hood'. They went one step beyond this by remembering and naming the other traditional tales we have read in previous weeks.
They retold the story in their own words and we displayed them in the reading area.
We acted out the story in 'Helicopter Stories'. Julia was such a good 'big, bad wolf'! We found the costume in our dressing up box and enjoyed pretending to 'skip' through the woods.
We also innovated the story, changing the characters.
Seth's story was 'Little Yellow Hoody' who was saved by Spiderman
Kobe's story was 'Little Green Vans' who was saved by the firefighter
We had to think of our favourite colour, our favourite item of clothing and who is a superhero to us!
On Friday, we celebrated 'Number Day'
We accessed number themed activities, played bingo and tried to win a prize by guessing the amount of items in the 'Guess-timation' jar.
Some of these activities we will be able to play with you on either Tuesday or Wednesday at our class 'Stay and Play'.
We look forward to welcoming you into the classroom!
Next week, our learning text will be 'The Runaway Pancake'
It has some similarities to the story 'The Gingerbread Man' which we will discuss during our Literacy lessons.
You can watch the story here:
We would like to say 'Thank you'! to Ruby. She had a little clear out at home and brought us some amazing painting pens and stamps. We really enjoyed using these and creating our own designs.
We had great fun in the 'shoe shop'.
We tried on different shoes, found out which ones we like best and used the toy money to pay for them. The adults in the room loved the communication that they children used- however we were shocked at how many children were using the word 'dollars' as their name for money. We discussed different words for money around the world and taught them the word 'pounds'.
Finley enjoyed being able to 'fan' the notes and offer them to his friends around the classroom!
Oscar and Sami developed a delivery service bringing the boxes of shoes to wherever we were in the classroom! Future entrepreneurs!
This week we had a tie for dojo winners, well done to Kobe and Mohamed!
Our Star of the Week was Maja for always trying her best in group time. Mrs Rothwell, Mrs Baggaley, Mrs Williamson and Miss Penworth are so proud of you Maja!
We will see you all for our final week of this half term.....the last five weeks have been a blur, but we can see the children are ready for rest. See you on Monday!
