Week Beginning 08.09.26

Our first week

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff. You can send a message via the nursery text system or contact the office on 01942 776015.

To contact the Sunflower Room directly, please call 01942 776007, extension 1021.

Please inform the nursery if your child will not be attending.

Please note that if your child has experienced sickness or diarrhoea, they must remain absent from nursery for 48 hours after their last episode before returning.

The children have settled beautifully into nursery life. They have adapted well to our daily routines and have enjoyed playing and building friendships with the other children in the room.

Next week, the children will bring home a book from our loan library. They will have the opportunity to choose the book themselves, encouraging independence and a love of reading. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to spend quality time together, sharing and enjoying a story that your child has selected. Books can be exchanged as often as you wish, allowing your child to explore a variety of stories and interests.

Please email photographs of your child’s close family members, friends, and pets. These photos can be a valuable way to support your child’s transition into nursery by providing a sense of familiarity and security. They also help staff build meaningful connections with your child and encourage the development of speech, language, and communication skills.

Please send them to – Toni.clarke@westfield.wigan.sch.uk

Our Class Routine

9:00am - Carpet Time
We begin our day with carpet time, where the children come together to brush their teeth, sing our welcome song, and enjoy a selection of nursery rhymes chosen by the children. This helps to develop their confidence, listening skills, and sense of belonging within the group.

After carpet time, the children enjoy free play, where they can explore a range of activities that have been carefully set out for them. These activities encourage independence, creativity, and the development of a variety of skills through play.

At around 10:00am, the children are offered a healthy snack along with a choice of milk or water. We encourage the children to develop their independence by pouring their own drinks. To support this skill, we kindly ask that you encourage your child to use a normal cup at home whenever possible.

After lots of morning fun, we transition outside, where the children can develop their physical skills, explore the outdoor environment, and take part in a range of exciting activities.

At 11:20am, we come back inside to enjoy a story together before preparing for lunch.

Following lunch, some children have a rest or sleep, while others engage in quiet activities. We then get ready for our afternoon activities, continuing our learning through play and exploration.

At 2:00pm, the children enjoy another healthy snack before continuing with the rest of their afternoon.
