This week we have been using the text Marvellous Me to help us with our learning. We have been thinking about the wonderful things that we do that make us unique! Here are some of the experiences in provision we have explored 

This week we have been thinking about our talents and the things that make us special. We talked about the things we are good at and the things that we enjoy. Here are some of the pictures we created about Marvellous Me!

We talked about our feelings and emotions and celebrated the things that make us happy. We talked about what we look like when we are happy and re-created some of these expressions using playdough in our creative area. Here they are. Enjoy!

Our theme of Marvellous Me has kept us super busy in the Funky Finger area. We have been threading shapes of all different sizes to help strengthen our muscles. Here we are in action

As we think about Marvellous Me we have been learning about the different parts of our body. We have discussed what we use our hands for, what our legs can do and why we have knees. So we took the opportunity to label the different parts of our body and share our ideas with our friends

One of the other things we have been thinking about is our age. Some of us are 4 and some of us are 5. We have been exploring the different ways we can show 4 and 5 and what better way to do that than with a birthday cake. Our challenge was to add the correct number of candles to a cake, show the number with our fingers and have a go at writing it down

Last week we introduced the children to the picture side of our RWI phonic cards. For example apple, dinosaur, mountain and so on. This we have been introducing the children to the letter sounds. Each day they have learnt a new sound and we have been sending home the writing sheets for you to practise – remember to say the sound and not the letter name. Each day we play Fred Games with Ellie and this helps us to remember and recall the sounds speedily.

We also have been practising writing these sounds in our phonics area. We write in lots of different ways in Reception - in sand, in the air, with chalks outside and on large sheets of paper - all great ways to develop the children's strength and memory. 

This week in PE we explored how to create letters in the air using coloured scarves. We had such a great time and this really helps us to commit to memory the shapes and rhymes when writing letters

Next week we will be using the lovely text On The Way Home to help us with our learning. A lovely story about a little girl who told her mum that she met all kinds of wonderful creatures on her way home from the park. Exciting!
