Hello and welcome back to this week's class blog and what a fabulous week it has been!
This week we have been using the text On The Way Home as the focus for our learning. Let's start off by looking at some of the invitations to play and learn we have explored this week.
We started the week off by listening to the story. We used our memory to help us recall the characters and the order Claire met them in. We then created our own road maps to depict what happened in the story
As Claire made her way home along the road she saw lots of different signs along the way. We had a challenge to complete this week to match the road signs and think about what they might be telling us. We also talked about the signs we may see on our way to school and we used google earth to look around our local area
In our Maths area we talked about numbers, especially those on our own front door. We looked at the number Claire lived at in the story and created our own matching towers using Unifix cubes. Here we are in action building and matching number and quantity
We also utilised the time to look at shapes we may see in the envionrment - this linked nicely to the road sign challenge we completed earlier in the week. We talked about the shapes we see in the environment and how some shapes fit inside each other getting smaller and smaller. We looked at a famous artist called Kandinsky and recreated his work
As we continue to learn our letter sounds we have been using the Read Write Inc portal in class to help secure our knowledge. We have really embraced this way of learning and we have been writing letters independently in lots of the areas in the classroom. Look how proud of our efforts we are. Remember to keep up the good work practising at home
We have been busy in our phonics area this week. We continue exploring the letter sounds we have learnt in fun and interactive ways that help us to retain them. We love sound searches. Here we are in action
Next week we will be using the lovely text In Every House On Every Street, a story about how each of our homes are different and equally unique and special to each of us. Join us next week to find out all about it.
Have a wonderful weekend
