Week ending 16th October

This week, we had a very exciting and informative visit from the Canal and River Trust. They came to teach us all about staying safe in and around canals and rivers.

We learnt that canals and rivers can be wonderful places to explore, but they can also be dangerous if we do not follow important safety rules. The visitors showed us what to do if we are near water and explained why it is important to always be careful around the water's edge. We discovered that even on warm days, the water can be very cold, and strong currents can make it difficult to get out if someone falls in.

The children enjoyed taking part in activities and discussions about how to stay safe. We learnt to "Stop, Think, Stay Safe" and to avoid running near the water. We also talked about what to do in an emergency, including calling 999 and asking for the fire and rescue service if someone is in danger in the water.

One of the most interesting parts of the visit was learning about the different wildlife that lives in and around our canals and rivers. We discovered how important it is to protect these habitats and respect the environment whenever we visit.

A huge thank you to the Canal and River Trust for spending time with us and teaching us such valuable lessons. We all left with a better understanding of how to enjoy our local waterways safely and responsibly. It was a fantastic visit that we will remember for a long time!
