Friday 14th June

Good morning and welcome to the blog for this week from Year 5W.

Maths - This week the children have begun investigating percentages. Did you know that per cent means out of 100? They have looked at the relationship between decimals and percentages. For example,

        25% = 25/100 or 1/4  and   50% = 50/100 or 1/2   and   75% = 75/100 or 3/4

English - The children have been innovating this week. This involves using the structure of the model text (called Kidnapped!) but then changing the who, the when and the where of the story. They have planned and written an independent piece of writing.

Also, we have started our new class novel this week called The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie. Here is a synopsis of the story...

Daniel Holmes is an orphan living in Glasgow being bullied for being different. When being chased by the gang, a mysterious shop from nowhere appears and he is able to seek refuge. Showing himself to have unusual powers, Daniel is asked to join the Emporium where a magical labyrinth of rooms contains wonders beyond belief. He is transported around the world, having incredible adventures and experiences along the way. However, magic and mystery come at a price…is Daniel willing to make the sacrifice?

Our certificate winner this week won for simply being herself. She is kind, courteous and hard-working. She lights up the classroom with her smile every day. Well done from all of Year 5W smileysmileysmiley

REMINDER:

Weather permitting, the Year 5/6 Sport's Day will be held on Monday 17th June at 9.15am on the field in the KS2 playground. You are welcome to join us to support all the children as they compete. In the event of having to cancel, you will be informed of the rescheduled date as soon as possible.

That's all for this week from Year 5W. We hope you have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you next week.
