Where does our energy come from?

This is a question that Y6 have been thinking about during this half term. They have identified energy as renewable and non-renewable and are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of both kinds, including how non-renewables such as fossil fuels will one day run out.

In the UK, the renewable source that supplies us with the most energy is wind power. However, at Westfield we do not have much high, open space to place many wind turbines. Consequently, we concluded that solar energy would be the best kind to develop on our site.

The children walked around the school site to make decisions about the best place to have solar panels to maximise the sunlight we receive. Most agreed that the roof at the front of the building would be the best as it was mostly south facing meaning it would benefit from the most sunlight generally speaking.

Here are Y6F during this field work.
