Hello, and welcome back to our class blog. We’ve had another super week!
Our main topic has been Remembrance Day. To support the children’s understanding, we watched the CBeebies Poppies animation, which helps explain the significance of the poppy and why we wear it.
As part of developing our communication and language skills, the children had the opportunity to look at a variety of Remembrance Day photographs. They discussed what they could see and, most importantly, how the people in the pictures might be feeling.
Our maths focus this week has been learning to recognise and describe quantities using the key words more, fewer, and the same. We worked both as a whole class and in small groups, where the children hunted for hidden cubes and compared the quantities of different colours they found. The children have worked brilliantly and have been using the correct mathematical terminology.
Keeping in line with our Remembrance Day theme, the children have enjoyed a range of focused activities that supported the development of their fine motor skills, early writing and mark making, as well as their creativity.
The children have also taken part in some mindfulness moments this week, exploring different breathing techniques to help them stay calm. Next week, we will be focusing on the emotion of anger, recognising what it feels like to be angry, and learning how we can help ourselves during these moments.
Explore the pictures below to see some of the other activities the children have enjoyed, helping them to develop their gross motor and social skills.
Children in Need Day!
On Friday, it was Children in Need. The children met Pudsey and his friend Blush, and learned how Pudsey helps raise money for children, including those who are unwell. We have practised being doctors, looking after each other and our toys. The children also really enjoyed decorating biscuits to look like Pudsey’s bandana, along with taking part in other Children in Need themed activities. All of these activities have continued to enhance the children’s learning opportunities.
Due to the weather on Friday, we were unable to play outside. As a result, we continued with similar activities from PE and enjoyed dancing to different styles of music.
Thank you for taking the time to read our class blog.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone next week.
