WB 17th November

Hello and welcome back to our class blog. The children have had a very busy week of learning.

In Mathematics, we have continued to explore more, fewer and the same when recognising quantities.

Our book of the week has been The Colour Monster. This story is all about emotions and learning to recognise them. We have been thinking about what we look like when we are angry, happy, sad and worried, and why we might feel these emotions. This activity is helping the children to develop their communication and language skills, as well as their personal, social and emotional understanding.

Continuing our mindfulness work this week, we have started to introduce songs specifically created by Wigan Council to help young children learn about their emotions and how to respond to them. These songs are part of a unique programme available only to settings within the Wigan area. The children have also continued to use their calm breathing techniques and have learned flower breathing this week. This is when we breathe in through our noses to ‘smell’ the flowers, and then slowly breathe out through our mouths.

Within our classroom, the children have had the opportunity to take part in activities linked to our book of the week, which are helping to develop their fine motor skills and creativity.

Our main creative focus this week has been colours. We have been recapping their names and learning what happens when different colours are mixed together. The children’s creative pictures are now on display in our creative corner.

Our PE lessons this week have been building on our balance and coordination, with the main focus being teamwork. The children have worked together to play with the parachute and have passed teddies along a bench while balancing in different ways. They have all really enjoyed these activities.

Following on with the teamwork children have worked together building and constructing within our small world resources.

See the pictures below to take a closer look at what we’ve been up to this week.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our class blog. We hope you enjoyed looking back over our week. We look forward to seeing you all next week.
