Hello and welcome back to the Reg 2 class blog. We have had another brilliant week.
Our maths focus this week has been recognising and accurately counting the numbers 1, 2, and 3. The children are now working in small focus groups to complete different activities that help them to master these mathematical skills.
Our book of the week has been You Choose by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt. This is our first non-fiction text of the year and it is all about the choices we can make. Inspired by the story, we have made our own choices to verbally create individual adventure stories.
We have begun some early phonics lessons. Phonics provides the building blocks that help children learn to read. Over the past few weeks, the children have mastered the visual cues that match each letter, in line with our school’s phonics scheme, Read Write Inc.
This week, the children have learnt the sounds m and a and have practised writing them.
We have also enjoyed drawing and choosing how to decorate the homes and clothes we selected. The children have been practising writing their names and are doing a terrific job.
PE has been a great opportunity to continue developing our fundamental movement skills. This has included throwing, catching, balancing, teamwork, and our listening skills.
PE is a much-loved part of the children’s week.
For mindfulness this week, we have continued learning our songs about emotions and have been practising guitar breathing. This is where we pretend to hold a guitar, breathe in as we raise our arm, and breathe out while ‘strumming’ the ‘guitar’ and saying “hmmmm”. Our book of our mindful breathing exercises is available in the children’s reading area.

Thank you for taking the time to read our class blog. Next week, we will be learning about families. If possible, please send in a family picture, either in your child’s bag or via the school email: enquiries@admin.westfield.wigan.sch.uk.
Thank you again.
