Hello everyone and welcome to the Reg 2 class blog.
Our book of the week has been The Journey Home from Grandpa’s by Jemima Lumley.
Linked to this story, the children have been identifying different vehicles and learning about where they travel – in the sky, on land, or on water. The children have also enjoyed drawing the vehicles they use to get to school or those they see on their walk in.
We have also embarked on our own journey to The ALPS (Adventure Learning Progress Space) within Westfield. The children have loved exploring the area and taking part in a new adventure.
Our maths focus for this week has been shapes. The children have been identifying circles, squares, triangles and rectangles.
You can support your child at home by spotting these shapes in your environment, just as we have been doing in class, and counting how many sides each shape has.
In our mindfulness sessions, we have been thinking about feeling giddy and excited, and how we can calm our racing, busy brains. We have also added Monkey Breaths to our calm breathing book.
We are working through this book alphabetically and using it as an opportunity to highlight the initial letter sound.
The children have accessed many activities linked to our themes and topics, which support their development across multiple areas. With adult support, these activities have also helped to develop the children’s oracy (speaking) skills.
The children are continuing to practise their writing skills, especially writing their names. We are so impressed with how much the children are improving in this area.
You can support this at home by encouraging your child to trace their name and copy your writing.
As always, the children have loved spending time outdoors. This space helps to develop coordination and gross motor skills, which are essential for supporting the development of reading and writing skills in the brain.
Thank you so much for reading our class blog and for all the support you give to the children’s learning.
If you are able to send in a picture of your family, we are still collecting them for our home corner, and we would really appreciate them.
We look forward to seeing you all next week.
