Hello and welcome to the Reg 2 class blog for the first week of February 2026.
Our book of the week is Please Help Planet Earth. This book has introduced simple and practical ways that young children can help to look after the environment, as well as helping them to understand why caring for our planet is important.
Children worked in small groups to find ways to help planet earth.
In Maths this week, the children have been focusing on the number of the week, 1. We have been counting one of different items and learning to recognise what shows 1 and what does not. The children have also been practising writing the number 1.
We have also been recapping the shapes we learned last week.
During mindfulness sessions, children who were not able to take part in last week’s lesson, which focused on feeling giddy and how to calm ourselves, have had the opportunity to engage in these activities.
During PE, the children have been working on their balance and coordination.
Linking to our topic Our Home, Planet Earth, the children have been junk modelling and creating their own homes.
A big focus for Westfield this year is developing oracy, which supports children in developing their speaking skills. One way we are doing this in Reg 2 is through songs. We are primarily building on our collection of nursery rhymes, alongside a selection of other songs.
Children have continued to practise writing their names with a purpose.
Within the classroom, children have had many opportunities to engage in activities linked to different areas of learning and development.
Thank you for taking the time to read our blog. Next week, the children will be thinking about different jobs. This will also be our last week before half term.
We look forward to seeing you all soon.
