Week Beginning 13th May

REMINDER- Nursery closes for May half term after the session on Friday 24th  May and will return on Tuesday 4th June, Thankssmiley

  • If your child is still using a dummy throughout the day please consider reducing the use of this, we can support you through this transition and give advice if and when needed. We would really like more children to be dummy free as this affects speech and language and communication skills. We talk about not using or having dummies at nursery and the children react well, some of them have even used the dummy tree to get rid of their dummies which we are really proud ofsmileyheart

  • We would like to encourage parents to try getting rid of or reducing the use of dummies through the week of May half term then they are preschool readysmiley

A big well done to this superstar giving up his dummy and putting it on the dummy tree in nursery, he enjoyed picking he's own prize out of the boxlaughyes

Another big well done to this superstar who now has no more nappies at bed timesmileyyes

Some of our activities this weeksmiley

Focused communication groupssmiley

Our focused groups this week was prepositions and understanding single words and correctly identifying objects out of a group. For this we used a small teddy bear and a cup and asked the children can you put the teddy on top of the cup, beside the cup, under the cup and in the cup. They was really keen to try this, and showed good concentration and listening skills. Please try this at home with your child/children so they can keep practicing. You can encourage this by asking them to put their socks "in" the washing machine, can they sit "on" the couch/floor/bed, can they stand "next to or beside" a toy or family member when asked and can they crawl "under" someone's legs. If you try this at home please let us know how your child gets onsmileyyes

The other communication group was to identify objects within a group, for this we used picture flashcards containing familiar objects such as car, apple, ball, fish, cat, key, sun. We placed a few cards down to begin with and slowly added more. We asked the children "can you find the ball" "can you find the sun". To challenge them further we was asking "what is this" as we held up a card this is to prompt single words, we also challenged them by asking "can you find the apple and the key". Again this is another activity you can try at home with objects in your householdyes Please let us know if you try this at homelaugh

Outdoor Playsmiley

This week we took a small group on the bus into Wigan again to explore the bus station and see all the different buses there. The children was so well behaved and walked lovely to and from the bus stops, they sat through the whole bus rides well and enjoyed listening for different sounds along the way. We heard the bell on the bus which the children began to sing "the bell on the bus goes ding-a-ling-a-ling" "the driver on the bus says tickets please", they made a lot of people smile. They enjoyed waving to the bus drivers and listening to them beep their hornssmiley
