Some of our activities this week
Outdoor play😊
The children love to play and explore on the grass area in nursery, they use good physical skills to climb, jump, run and roll. They enjoyed climbing up the plank of wood to get into the tyres, then they jumped or stepped into each tyre creating their own obstacle course.
After this the children enjoyed picking different flowers out of the grass to put into their water play to make potions with
Tuesday afternoon we took a small group around the environment whilst the sun was shining, we went to the big hill on Montrose Avenue, the children love this and play well. They run up and down the hill and love to roll down! The children used good listening skills and held their "footstep friends" hands and walked so well
On Thursday we took a small group of children for a wet walk wearing wellies and a wet suit and we went searching for puddles to splash/jump in.
Tuesday 21st May
Today we enjoyed red sand play with the photo frames inside, we used these to encourage the children to make their own pictures/shell collages. The children held up the shells to their ears to hear the sea at the beach. We also had a busy morning inside with the slide, stepping blocks and tunnel. Everyone was so keen to stand on the steps and showed good confidence and balance, they took turns independently and waited really well for their turns
We are trying to challenge the children and use fine motor skills by using scissors, they listen well and are so careful when using them (supervised by an adult at all times). We used cooked spaghetti to cut
In the afternoon we had a water sensory tray which including scented tea bags, flowers, glitter, lemons, limes & oranges with colanders and big spoons for mixing. The children built imaginative play around this activity pretending to make cakes and cups of teas. They enjoyed using their senses to smell the tea bags and feel the different fruits included.
Wednesday 22nd May
Today we used an activity again to challenge and focus on fine motor skills, this included ribbons, pegs and socks. We modelled how to open and close the pegs and encouraged the children to hang up the socks and match them correctly
We had the superheroes in the messy tray with a range of cereals for them to "smash" up with the hulk figures, and to stomp on with a character of their choice.
We borrowed preschools castle divide and put coloured rice inside the different sections to further imaginative play.
Thursday 23rd May
Today we did a body painting activity, the children used all nursery spare clothes to participate in, they enjoyed getting very messy and rubbing paint up their arms, on the tummies and walking through the paint with their feet they had a nursery bath after this and enjoyed the bubbles and getting clean
In the afternoon we had a shaving foam activity, we dropped small amounts of food colouring in the shaving foam so the children could experiment and mix the colours, they used their hands and fingers to mix together
Friday 24th June
Today we have enjoyed sand play, all of the children have formed good friendships and play really well together. They encourage each other to build sandcastles and count whilst putting the scoops of sand into their buckets
Frankie the duck🦆
On Thursday, Robyn (preschool member of staff) found a baby duck in need of help, she has taken care of it and since brought it into nursery for the children to see. The children was really keen to meet it and was very brave when holding/stroking it. They was very excited and loved this experience
