Hello and a very warm welcome back to our class blog. Happy New Year to you all! This half term sees us using Traditional Tales as the focus for our learning. Each week we will take a different tale and explore it in depth and across all areas of the curriculum. This week we have been using the text The Gingerbread Man, let's take a look
As always, we set the classroom up with lots of engaging and exciting activities for the children to explore during the course of the week. Here are just some of the lovely invitations to come and play we have explored
We started the week of by thinking about the events in the story. We talked about the beginning, middle and end of the story and which characters were involved. We then used this knowledge to create a story map. Take a look at our wonderful work
We have also really enjoyed retelling the story in our new role play area. We have created the bakery from the story and this has been the perfect back drop for us to develop our story telling skills. Here we are in action baking gingerbread men
We have also been busy thinking about the sounds in words linked to the story. We have been using our Fred Fingers to help us say the sounds and write them. We have explored lots of different writing opportunities this week. We have created story maps, written recipes and played missing sound games. Here is just a small selection of our wonderful work
We have also been using the theme of Gingerbread Men to help us with our reading. We played a game were we had to choose a gingerbread, fred talk and read the game and then pop it into the pan to cook. We had such a fun time it hardly felt like learning!
We even managed to squeeze in some traditional tale yoga. We acted out the story Little Red Riding Hood and walked through the woods, bent and stretched and then ran from the wolf. We really do love our Yoga sessions
In Maths this week we have been matching numeral to quantity, subitising and learning a little about number bonds to 5 and to 10. Here is a round up of our Maths work this week.
We took some time this week to explore spices. Did you know that if you add water to spices you can make a paste and use it to paint with. This is exactly what we did. We spent time smelling, describing and painting with spices. Our classroom smelt amazing. The children were in their element with this.
Next week we will be using the story Jack and the Beanstalk to help us with our learning. Have a wonderful weekend
