Welcome to our blog this week. We have just finished our second week looking at the text 'The Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson. In literacy we have been story mapping, focus on the main events of the story, in particular what happens at the beginning, middle and end. We looked through the book to help us. We have also changed a character in the story, we have swapped the the whale or the snail for something else and written about it. Finally we completed a book review, saying if we liked the story or not and recording what our favourite part of the story was.
In Maths, we have been continuing to look at the composition of numbers focusing on the numbers that go together to make 5 and then 10. We played a game 'Don't burn the sausages' where there are 10 sausages in the pan, some get burnt and some don't but there are always 10 sausages in the pan eg. so if 6 get burnt so how many don't (4) and there are still 10 sausages in the pan.
In our creative work we have been looking closely at snail shells and have completed lots of work creating spirals. We have drawn, painted, cut and made 3D spirals. There has been some amazing artwork created this week.
We've had lots of snail and whale activities in our classroom and lots of other activities to help develop our skills. We have the sand and water, the shop, play dough, small world, construction, storybook corner and more.
Next week, we will be continuing with our theme of Julia Donaldson books. Our week will be based on the story 'The Smartest Giant in Town'. If you would like to listen to the story please click the link below.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
