week ending 11th October 2024

Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog and what a wonderful week it has been in class. First of all let's take a little look at this weeks invitations to come and play and learn. Enjoy smiley

We continue along on our Read Write Inc journey. We are accessing daily letter sounds presented in lots of different, fun and interactive ways alongside our word time learning. The children are making great progress and they are gaining in confidence everyday - please keep up with the practice videos that are sent home each week via Weduc - it really does make a huge difference!

In keeping with out text of the week work we have bene exploring letter sounds like pirate Jed would do - in the sand! We had to dig for the sounds, use a magnet to collect them and tell our friend the sound we have discovered. Great fun yes

We have also been busy in the writing area in class. We created our very own pirate treasure map on weathered paper just like Pirate Jed used in the story.

We have also been busy in the creative area. Every good pirate needs a telescope - just like Pirate Jed. Thank you to all those people who provided us with tubes. As you can see we had a great time designing, making and using our telescopes - a great way of developing our fine motor control smiley

We have also been thinking about what we would like to take with us should we decide on becoming a pirate. We has some amazing idea and the children tried so hard to hear and write the letter sounds. keep up the good work everyone you're doing amazing!

In true pirate style we have walked the plank - saying the letter sounds out loud and avoiding the crocodiles around us and creating messages in bottles. We have had such a wonderful week learning all about Pirate Jed and his family. Take a look at us in action smiley

Now that Pirate Jed has his new home high on a hill with a roof as blue as the sky we thought about what he might grow in his garden. We had some fabulous ideas and the majority of children thought pumpkins. So we investigated what they looked like by creating some observational drawings. Enjoy! smiley

Here's a quick round up of other lovely things we have been using this week in class to support our learning. We have squiggled and wiggled with patterns, create speech bubbles and captions and explored reading words on giant pirate coins!

We have also been exploring patterns and have realised that patterns are all around us - on our socks, shoes and in the classroom. Here we are exploring mark making on a large scale to help us develop our muscle tone. We really enjoyed this and talked for ages about the different patterns and contrast of colours.

Next week we explore Autumn in greater depth. We will learn about the changing seasons and what happens to the environment around us.  It has been a pleasure to see so many of you at parents evening this week and I hope that you are all proud of the amazing start that they have had to their Reception year - I certainly am.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend
