Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. Can you believe we are at the end of our very first full week in Reception. As always, let's start by looking at some of the lovely provision we have been using to help develop our skills and knowledge
What a busy week we have had this week. We have been using the text Starting School to help us with our learning. We have been listening to the story and comparing and contrasting their experiences with our own. In the story the children painted. So did we. We painted self portraits and made a lovely display of them. We also explored how painting on tin foil makes the outcomes different. Take a look at our lovely display and us in action
In the story the children also had a go at writing. So that's what we did. We created story maps depicting the events of our own school day. We talked about waiting at the gate, hanging our coats up, sitting on the carpet, tidying up and lots of other exciting things. Look at our fabulous sketches
We also discovered that in the story the children started their journey learning how to read. This is also something that we have ben doing this week. We started off by scanning the text looking for letter sounds. Here we are looking for m and I in the story. Once we scanned the sentences left to right when we found the letter we placed a line through it
We also looked at the letter sounds we have been exploring in RWI and matched objects according to their initial sounds for example monkey begins with m, dinosaur begins with d. Take a look at us sorting and classifying!
In other areas of the classroom we have been strengthening our fingers by taking part in lots of funky finger activities. This is one of our favourite areas in the classroom. Take a look at some of the lovely activities we have explored
In Maths we have bene thinking about the number 3 and different ways to show it using our fingers. We have been copying patterns and showing 3 in lots of different arrangements. Here we are exploring 3
Next week we will be using the text Marvellous Me to help us with our learning. We will be thinking about and sharing with each other the wonderful things that make us unique and marvellous. If you would like to listen to the story before Monday please click on the link below -
And finally a few reminders .....
Book Bags need to come to school every day pleas - books will be changed ecah and every Friday. At the moment children will be bringing home a lovely story book for you to share together - we are not expecting the children to read these alone. Instead, share the book, talk about the pictures, find letters in the text that are from their name.
PE day for RW is Wednesday - Children must come to school dressed in their kits
Have a wonderful weekend and well deserved rest
