week ending 13th February 2026

Hello and welcome back to tour class blog. This week we have been learning using the story The Runaway Pancake. What a fabulous week it has been. It has also involved some yummy pancakes. Delicious! Let's look at this weeks invitations to learn smiley

We started the week off with pancake tasting. We had a choice of healthy toppings to add to our pancakes and after tasting them we wrote down words to describe how they taste. Take a look at some of this wonderful vocabulary and language the children used. Amazing smiley

We also read words on pancakes and once we have used our phonics skills to read them aloud, we popped them in the pan and had great fun tossing them into the air and catching them! smiley

In our continuous provision we have been number detectives. We have been looking around the classroom for numbers and then ordering, sorting and reading them. We have played games that help us to understand that numbers are all around us and can take on many different forms yes

We also put our subitising skills to good effect in the Maths area. We looked at the number of tasty items on top of the pancakes and used our subitising skills to work out how many where there and then put them in the correct order smiley

The lovely story of the Runaway Pancake has led us to many exciting writing opportunities this week. We have created recipes, drawn pictures of the Runaway Pancake and created our own story maps. Great work everyone smiley

We have also been thinking about the repeated refrains from all of the traditional tales we have read. One of our favourite activities this week has been to sort the refrains and add them to the correct story book.

We also welcomed our parents into class this week for our Maths themed stay and play sessions. What a fabulous turnout! We hoped that you had as much fun as the children did. We were really proud of each and everyone of them and we know they felt such pride in their work smiley

In our Maths this week we have been focusing on patterns and 3d shapes. We have learned the names of the shapes and spent time looking at how we can create different patterns in different variations smiley

On our return to school after the half term holiday we will be spending the first week learning all about Chinese New Year! If you would like to learn more about this lovely celebration please click on the link below - https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/chinese-new-year

Have a lovely half term and we cannot wait to see you again ready for Spring 2 term
