Hello and welcome to this weeks class blog. This week sees the last of our learning linked to Traditional Tales. This week we have explored a new text every single day. We have explored The Elves and the shoemaker, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and finally The 3 Billy Goats Gruff. Phew what a lot of wonderful reading. Let's look at some of the amazing learning opportunities we have explored this week in provision
One of our activities this week has been to create a walking story map. We added detail to a huge road map, talking about the events and characters and then we walked the map and retold the story in our own words. This really helped us to talk about the story in detail and develop our story telling language in the process
We created our own baskets of goodies that we thought Grandma would like to receive. We used supermarket magazine, scissors and got creative. The baskets the children created where fabulous and I would love to try them out. Yum!
We also developed our Funky Fingers in lots of different ways this week. We each had a peg and passed a heart around the circle to each other. A fun and exciting way of developing our finger strength and co-ordination
We have been thinking about our favourite parts of the story Little Red Riding Hood. We created illustrations and added captions. Here we are in action
This week we in Maths have been exploring 3d shapes. We have been talking about the attributes of shapes and their properties and had the challenge of describing them to our friends. Here we are naming and describing alongside our friends
We have also been developing our knowledge of pattern. We created repeating patterns using AAB for example red red blue, red red blue and so on. Here we are working on our patterning knowledge
As part of our work on the Elves and the Shoemaker we looked at the tread of lots of different shoes. We talked about the patterns we could see and then created our own shoes just like the elves did in the story. Look at these lovely examples
We also looked at some of the captions from the stories we have read and enjoyed. We then had the challenge of matching the phrases to the correct story. We loved this!!!"
Out thinking story this week was all about recycling. We looked at the recycle symbol and found different things in the classroom that were made from paper and talked about how they can be recycled. We watched a clip on You Tube and read a story about the journey of a box. It would be great to see if the children have talked about this at home with you. Please let us know
Finally, what a fantastic way end to this half terms learning with our Reading Stay and Play. The children were so happy and excited and proud to show off all of their efforts. It's always lovely to welcome you in and celebrate the children's efforts and hard work. Here is a snap shot of the session. Thanks so much for attending everyone it's most appreciated
When we return after half term we will be using the focus of Growth to help us with our learning. We will focus on growth of animals, plants, food and more importantly our own personal growth. Have a well earned rest,
