week ending 14th June 2024

Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. This week we have been using the wonderful text The Monkey Puzzle - the lovely story about how sometimes baby animals do not look like their mothers. It's been such a busy week this week learning all about animals and their young and the habitats they live in. First of all let's take a look at some of the exciting and lovely invitations to come and play we have explored this week smiley

We started the week off by looking at the text and talking about events that happen in the story. We use all of our story telling skills to help us remember and recall what happs and the order of events. Here is a small sample of some of the lovely writing we have completed smiley

This week we have also been thinking about the animals from the story and the different ways they move. We have explored how own own bodies move and what happens to the muscles when we move. Here we are outside moving around an obstacle course using different parts of our body yes

This week in class we have explored how young animals look different when they get older and what better animal to explore than a caterpillar who transforms into a beautiful butterfly. We have been carefully tending to them all week and watching them change, evolve and grow and we cannot wait for the next chapter to see how they develop smiley

We have also looked at some real life photographs of butterflies to check in and see what might happens when they emerge from the chrysalis, have a look at some of the lovely observational drawings we created in class. Look at the detail and colours the children have used. Well done everyone yes

This lovely text has also provided us with lots of other writing opportunities this week. We have drawn animals and their young and written why they cannot be mother and baby inline with what the author wrote in the book. We have also used books and the Internet to research different habitats and write about the features we can see for example what animals may live under the ocean, in rainforests and woodland areas. Such a lot of learning smiley

We have also been busy learning about where we might discover different habitats and using a globe, world map and atlas we explored different countries. We are so very lucky that some of our friends in class have recently returned from Hong Kong. We have accessed some amazing photographs, resources and learned so much new information about different countries and cultures. Thank you so much it's been wonderful  smiley

Next week we will be exploring the text Tiddler - the little fish who told big stories. If you would like to listen to the story before Monday please use the link below.
