week ending 14th November 2025

Hello and welcome back to our class blog. This week we have been using the text Commotion In The Ocean to help us with our learning. Let's take a look through some of our lovely invitations to play and learn that we have explored this week smiley

We started the week off by listening to the story. Then we took our existing knowledge of some of the animals we encountered and thought about what we wanted to know more about. We had some great questions ....

Luna wanted to know if an Octopus lays eggs

Anthony wanted to know if a penguin slips on the ice

So we used the Internet and information books to find out the answers to our questions. Here they are smiley

We spent some time getting busy in the creative area. We used water colours to add detail to a turtle picture - the children have really embraced selecting appropriate colours, wiping their brush and testing to check it is clean before selecting a new colour.

We also used clay to create our own sea creatures. We studied photographs and talked about the features, shape and size and then rolled, squashed and manipulate the clay to bring our ideas and designs to life. Take a look at our amazing sculptures smiley

We have also started to use the RWI portal in class to help us to retain our letter sounds. Here, we use the portal daily to help us say the sound, blend the sounds into word and recall them quickly. Remember to use the QR codes sent home to practice. It really does make a difference. Keep up the good work everyone smiley

We have also been practising our word blending. We made words using letter sounds on fish. We read the sounds, blended them together to read the word and we amazed the grown ups in our room by just how many words we can read.

In our PE lesson this week we have been working together in pairs to cross our midline. We have been twisting our body to pass a cone to our partner, this takes great team work and co-operation. Take a look at us in action smiley

In Maths this week we have been exploring and using the language of same and equal and learning about what it means. We have accessed lots of different activities that help us to use the language and understand it. Here we are sharing and making things equal for the 3 bears yes

Our Funky Finger area has been as popular as ever this week. We have used fishing rods, pegs, pincers, threading laces and lots more to help develop our fine motor control and hand eye co-ordination. This is us in action!

Next week we will continue our learning about animals and habitats by exploring the book What the ladybird heard at the Seaside. A lovely book written by one of our favourite authors Julia Donaldson. If you would like to listen to the story before Monday please click on the link below -
