Week ending 15th November

Welcome to the blog. This week we have really enjoyed working with the book 'What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside' by Julia Donaldson. In Literacy we have made story maps, we had to draw pictures from the story in order, we compared the seaside to Wigan and thought about similarities and differences and put them in lists. We looked at the different characters in the story and wrote descriptions of them. Using pictures from the story we talked about what happens and in what order and then put the pictures in order and retold the story in our own words.

In maths this week we have been learning that 'parts' make a 'whole'. We have looked at objects that are made up of 'parts' and how the parts go together to make the 'whole' object. We thought about how we have lots of parts to our bodies to make the whole of us. We played a game where we could only see a part of a picture and we had to say what we thought the picture was based on what we could see. Using Numberblocks 2 and 3 we thought about the parts they are made of eg. 1 part and 1 part make Numberblock 2. We have continued finding out about 2D shapes and have been looking for squares and rectangles in the classroom environment.

We have had lots of fun art and craft activities based on the seaside and ladybirds. We have collaged, coloured, cut and been very creative this week.

We've been really busy with all the classroom provision and activities. We've had sand, water, seashells and pebbles, building blocks, writing activities, number tasks, play dough, story books and many more things to do.

On Monday 11th November we thought about Remembrance Day, watched an animated show and we made poppies.

On Friday 15th November, we wore our own clothes to support Children in Need day. We did lots of Pudsey activities and had a lovely time.

Next week we will be working with the book, 'On the Farm' by Axel Scheffler. If you would like to listen to the story, please click the link below.

Have a lovely weekend.
