week ending 16th January 2025

Hello and welcome back to our class blog. We have been busy using the text Jack and the Beanstalk this week to help us with our learning. This unit of work on Traditional Tales is great for helping us to develop our confidence retelling familiar stories. Let's start by looking at this weeks invitations to learn smiley

We started the week of by verbally retelling the story. We used our words to talk about the characters and the events of the story and then drew pictures to help us recall and remember. Here are some of the story maps we created smiley

We also used a variety of media to create pictures about what we thought we might discover at the top of a beanstalk. Take a look at some of our lovely, creative ideas.

We have been thinking about what the characters said at different parts of the story. We have been busy putting into practice our phonic skills and sounding out our words. Look at our very fabulous writing! smiley

Another one of our phonic activities this week involved looking carefully at a scene from the text Jack and the Beanstalk and then creating a sentence to share what we can see. The children have been using and applying their knowledge of the word I. Take a look at some of our independent writing. Keep up the good work everyone smiley

As part of our work on traditional tales we have been looking deeper into the stories. We have been exploring the characters and their personalities - what do they do and how do they feel? One of our activities involved taking the Giant from the story and Jack and describing them. This was a great opportunity to talk about feelings and emotions.

Our Learning to Learn space has been very popular this week and we have explored some lovely activities. Look at us leading our learning smiley

Our maths area has lent itself very nicely to our text of the week this week. We have written and found the answer to number sentences as well as used our Number Block fiends to help us learn about one more and one less. One less has proven to be tricky but we won't give up yes

That's all for this week but we return to school on Monday and will be using the text The Enormous Turnip to help us with our learning. If you would like to listen to the story before Monday please click on the link below -
