Hello and a warm welcome back to this weeks class blog. What a fabulous week it has been. Hot Hot Hot! Let's take a look at this weeks learning. Using the text The Smartest Giant in Town we created some lovely invitations to come and learn. Have a look through. What's your favourite and why?
Having read the story - great for developing our rhyming skills - we thought about what George the giant gave to each of the animals. Here we are writing in speech bubbles what the different characters said. Great work everyone
One of the things George gave away was his tie to a cold giraffe who used it as a scarf. We then used different letter sounds on ties and then added them to George. We created so many words in our phonic area. Look at us here applying our RWI knowledge to our play
Also in our phonic area we became letter detectives. We took an extract of the text and searched for different letter sounds. We love this activity and it really helps us to develop our understanding that we read left to right and how to follow the flow of the text. Here we are in action
Last week we looked at the story Snail and the Whale. We researched on the Internet how to preserve the environment in which they live. The children discovered that if there was less plastic in the sea that would help animals such as whales to live a better life. As you know we drink a lot of milk in class and we have had some great donations of milk bottle lids. So instead of recycling this guess what we did? We created our own turtle using lids. How fabulous is this? Not only is it creative, it helped us learn more about the planet and to be recycling champions
We also discovered a snail around the playground. We took the snail, studied how it moved, what it ate - very healthy vegetables - and then the children asked to draw about it. We had so many lovely conversations about the snail and it was a great opportunity to recall our learning from last week. Here we are studying its features
Back to the Smartest Giant in Town! We took the idea from the story and created a new ending. We thought about the different animals George might help if there was to be a part 2. Who knew that George may give his show to a snake to keep his tail warm, or that George might give his hat to a fish for a new bowl. Take a look at our very creative ideas
In PE this week we have explored throwing. We have been looking at the different stances we need to have power when we throw. We used the javelins to practice our movements and to challenge ourselves in how far we could throw them. Amazing! Such great listening Reception W
Our final text of the Summer 1 term will be A Squash and a Squeeze. If you would like to listen to the story before Monday please click on the link below
