Welcome back to Reception W's class blog. This week has been a great week for learning. We have used the text The Smartest Giant in Town to help us learn about friendships and how helping others can make us feel good. Let's have a little look at this weeks learning
One of the first things we did was to create a list of the items George gave away so that we could replace them and help him like he helped others. We love to write lists! We learn all about how writing helps us in different areas of our life. Why not let your child write a shopping list and see what items they can spell out - great for developing their Read Write Inc skills too
Speaking of Read Write Inc ....... We love to complete sound searches too. We take a page of the text of the week, select one, two or sometimes even 3 letter sounds to search for and then highlight them when we find them. This is great for helping children understand where we start reading and how to move along a line of text
We have also spent a lot of time exploring and sharing our favourite Julia Donaldson texts with our friends. Take a look at this lovely duo who sat for ages looking at and talking about the pictures and re-telling the story to each other. A true love of books and reading
In Maths this week we have been exploring ordering numbers. We have taken part in lots of lovely hands on learning that helps us to develop our knowledge of the composition of numbers and number order. Here we are working together to put ourselves in the correct order according to the number they are holding. Great for language skills, organising and supporting each other as well as number recognition
We then took it one step further and look at how to take one away and record the number sentences using sausages! We counted out 10, added them to the pan, took one away and worked out the answer and recorded it. Here we are in Maths Action!
In Reception W we love to write. We write in lots of different areas of the classroom. We write on paper, whiteboards, post it notes, envelopes in fact you name it we can write on it! This weeks text of the week has given us lots of lovely writing opportunities to explore independently. We have drawn characters and labelled them, identified and written words from the story and made our own story map depicting the order of the clothing George gave away. Have a look at this weeks writing round up
And finally, here is a little round up of some of the other lovely things we have explored this week. We have worked together, explored outside, learned how to respect each other and share ideas. Great week of work. Next week we will be using the text A Squash and a Squeeze as we continue or journey through Julia's Donaldson's lovely texts. As always, I will attach a link below for you to share the story before Monday.
