Welcome to this week's blog. We've had a great first week back after the half term break. We have based our work on the book 'Jacob O'Reilly wants a pet' by Lynne Rickards. In literacy we have drawn pictures of pets we have or would like to have and had a go at writing what they are. We have used the ipad to find out about different animals and how they live. We have used the book to help us sequence the pictures of the different animals in the story. We have looked at pages from the book and spotted letters we have been learning in Read Write Inc.
In maths we have been done a lot of work about the number 5. We have been singing the rhyme '5 little peas in a peapod' and can see we have 5 fingers on one hand. We have been counting to 5, making collections of 5 objects, looking at the pattern of 5 on a dice and looking at how we have 5 fingers on each hand that make 10 altogether. We have also looked at 4 sided shapes and sorted 2D shapes into sets of '4 sides' and 'not 4 sides'.
In our story, Jacob O'Reilly decided a snail was the best pet for him. Mrs Williamson found some snails in her garden and brought them in for us to look at. We drew snails and spiral pictures just like on the snails shell. We called the snails, 'Michelle' and 'Sidney'.
We've also had lots of other activities going on in our classroom, many based on our story and finding out about different animals.
On Tuesday, Tracey from 'Be Well Wigan' came to talk to us about brushing our teeth. She showed us how to brush and told us rules to make sure we do a good job and keep our teeth healthy.
She said, 'brush for 2 minutes, 2 times a day but night time is the most important, don't use any water because the toothpaste is not as good if it's watered down'.
She also showed us the correct way to wash our hands to make sure they are really clean.
School have been awarded free fruit from Tesco and we have been enjoying trying lots of delicious fruits. We have had watermelon, pineapple, melon and strawberries.
This half term the topic our books are based on is animals. Next week, our work will be based on the book, 'Commotion in the Ocean' by Giles Andreae. If you would like to listen to this book please click the link below.
Have a lovely weekend.
