Welcome to our blog. This week we have had a lovely time working with the story, 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson. We've been finding out about worms and minibeasts.
In literacy we have been reading sentences from the 'Superworm' story and matching them to the right character. We have thought about the different jobs 'Superworm' did to help the other minibeasts and wrote our own ideas. We have sequenced the story on story maps and found out lots of information about worms and made our own books. We found out a baby worm is called a 'wormlet'.
In maths we have been doubling numbers, we had counters and were asked to find more to double them. We have been practising our number bonds to 5. We sang '5 little speckled frogs' and thought about how many frogs are on the log and how many are in the pool but there are still 5 frogs.
To help us learn more about how worms live we have set up a 'Wormery'. We have put sand, soil and leaves in the wormery and a real worm has moved in so we can watch how the wormery changes over time.
We are so creative in our class, we have had minibeast pictures to complete and our pictures are amazing! We have also painted fabulous pictures from the story and made our own paper worms.
We have also had lots of activities in our classroom to help us develop our skills. We've had writing, number, craft, play dough, funky fingers, construction and loads more. We love to be busy in our class.
We are continuing our theme on Julia Donaldson books next week and we are working with the story 'Zog'. If you would like to watch the story please go to BBC iplayer where there is a lovely animation of the story.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
