Week ending 21st June

Welcome to our new blog. This week has been busy and we had our first school sports day. Everyone did really well. While we waited for our turn on the tracks, we did a big warm up and played parachute games. When it was our turn on the tracks, we all did a running race, a balance the beanbag on your head race and a hurdles race. We had loads of fun.

We having been following the Euro's Football Competition because every class in the school were given a team to follow. We were given 'Ukraine' as our team. We made flags to decorate our class. Did you know the flag is half blue and half yellow? The blue represents the sky and the yellow represents the wheat fields because the Ukraine provides a lot of Europe with wheat. We watched a bit of a game on Monday but Ukraine lost but Friday's game has been much better and we WON!!!

In Literacy we have been following the story 'Tiddler' by Julia Donaldson. We have had lots of under the sea and fish activities. We have written sentences to describe the characters. We have completed speech bubbles to write things the characters say in the story and we have been retelling the story.

This week in maths we have been practising our number bonds and doubling numbers. We have used counters and our fingers to work out and show our answers and moved on to automatic recall where we have been saying 2 numbers that make up the parts of a whole number. We have been doing quick recall of doubling numbers.

Around our classroom we have had lots of under the sea and fish activities in our continuous provision. We created tropical fish with chalk pastels and paints. We have cut and made fish and mermaids. We have had a chest full of treasure and pirate ship to play with. The water tray is full of fish and lots more.

Next week we will be working with the Julia Donaldson book, 'Tabby McTat'. If you would like to listen to the story please click the link below.

Have a lovely weekend. We hope the sun keeps shining.
