week ending 22nd November 2024

Welcome back to this weeks class blog. We have packed so much into this week so let's have a look at what we have been learning about. This weeks text of the week is On The Farm - a lovely story about the animals that live on the farm, job roles and how they are all different. As you know we have taken a different group of animals each week to help us learn more - we have focused on pets, sea animals, seaside creatures, mini beats and habitats and farm animals. Next week we venture into the Jungle! More about that later!

As always we start the week off by accessing some of our lovely invitations to learn. These always focus on our text of the week and set challenges for the children whilst they play and learn. This is just some of the ones we have explored and enjoyed this week smiley

We started the week off listening to the story then we focused on the animals - what did they look like, sound like, eat, live and so on. After lots of discussions we chose an animal, created an illustration and then added a label. We are working so hard on using our sounds we learn in RWI to help us with our writing. Take a look at our writing smiley

We continue with our Read Write Inc sound using the laptops. Each day the children access the laptops and review and refresh the sounds they know. We play Fred Games that focus on blending and helping children to hear the sounds in words. Keep up the good work accessing the clips at home as it really does make a huge difference. Thank you for your ongoing support yes

We have explored Farm Animals in many different areas of the classroom this week. We have created paintings, used loose parts to create animal faces and explored foot prints and patterning! Here is a little round up of our creative work this week linked to the farm. One of the children's most favourite activities is to complete the symmetrical photographs. The attention to detail is amazing and their skills are really developing well. We have even been exploring vegetables that may be grown on the farm - we learned new names, explored colour, texture and talked about the ones we have tried at home smiley

Without a doubt the highlight of the week has been our trip to Haigh Hall and what a perfect day it was! Who knew it would snow? This only added to the magic of our very first trip in Reception! We talked about the weather and what animals would thrive in the snowy conditions, we talked about weather - how eventually the snow would melt and why, we talked about animal habitats - where would the squirrels be right now? so so much learning. Here are the highlights of the trip smiley

We even managed to link this weeks yoga sessions to both the Farm and to suit the snowy conditions. We have moved like the animals in the story and relaxed and refreshed our bodies with our calm and gentle breathing exercises. We really do love Yoga! smiley

On our return to school we used the photographs from the trip to help us with our writing. We talked about what we saw and felt and what we explored. Here is just one of the lovely examples of independent writing. Great work yes

And finally to complete such a busy week of learning we explored the composition of number 4. We have been using and understanding language such as part and whole. We have been exploring how when these parts are joined they make a whole. Here we are looking at parts of 4 smiley

Next weeks text of the week is yet another animal themed one. I gave a clue earlier..... yes it's Rumble In The Jungle. Please click on the link below to listen to the story before Monday smiley
