Welcome back to our class blog. This week we have been using the text The Enormous Turnip to help us with our learning. Let's start off by looking at some of the lovely invitations to play we have explored this week ![]()
After listening to the story we started the week off by creating individual story maps. We talked about the different events in the story and used language such as first, then, next and finally. We added illustrations and verbally retold the story in our own words. Then we used an inflatable microphone to stand up in front of the class and share our story maps orally. We are so proud of the confidence and the story telling language they used
In Maths we have been ordering numbers on turnips. We have been developing our knowledge and understanding of the number system, identifying 1 more and 1 less and guess the missing number ![]()
In our phonics area we have been using turnips with letter sound son and creating our own words. We completed a challenge to see how many different words we could create in 1 minute - the most we managed was 10. Fabulous work ![]()
We have also looked at our number bonds and the patterns that we can see. One of our activities this week required us to sing the song 5 little speckled frogs and then move the frogs from the log into the pool and write the corresponding number sentence. We will continue to practice writing our numerals over the next few weeks ![]()
We have also been ordering the characters from the story and talking about the order the old man called people to come and help him. Here we are ordering the characters and again developing our story telling language in the process ![]()
We have also been super busy in the creative area. This week we have use watercolours to paint picture of the characters from the story and we have sketched and studied daffodils and chosen the correct colours.
We even managed to collect some root vegetables - swedes, turnips etc and cut them open and looked at how the colours on the inside differ to those on the outside ![]()
We also innovated the text. This is something that we do each week to help develop our imagination and creativity. This week we thought about changing the turnip in the story to something different. We had so many great ideas. Imagine a story called The Enormous Ice Cream or one titled The Enormous Strawberry. Take a look at our ideas ![]()
Our Funky Finger area is really popular in class and we working really hard to develop our co-ordination and grip. Using stretchy putty is a firm favourite and look at the smiles on our faces ![]()
Just a couple of reminders regarding weekly events -
Children need to bring their bookbags everyday please
Wednesday is our PE day - It is important that children come to school dressed in their school PE kit on this day - see newsletter for details and photographs of the required kit
Friday is the day we change the children's reading books - it is important to return books and for reading records to be signed.
Class Blogs are compiled every Friday and it would be lovely if you could find time to look at it together and talk about the learning that has taken place that week
