Welcome to the last blog in this half term. We have spent the week looking at and working with the text 'A Squash and a Squeeze' by Julia Donaldson. In Literacy we changed a character in the story, we changed one of the animals that the lady took in, into anything we wanted. We have also read sentences. We have completed a comprehension activity by answering lots of questions about the story. We wrote speech bubbles thinking about what the animals may be thinking or would say.
In Maths we have spent this week looking at 2D and 3D shapes in detail. We have made 2D shape pictures, thinking about shape names and properties and the positions they need to be in to make a pictures. We have used the Numicon to complete a task of filling in a square with the different values of Numicon. We all had a square of paper and had to change it into a different shape by folding, we got rectangles, triangles and someone made a cylinder. We have looked around our classroom for 3D shapes and named any 2D shapes we can see in the 3D shape.
We've had lots of activities in our classroom, we have had a lot of farm animal tasks to match the animals in the story. We have drawn, painted and used coloured chalks on black paper to make animal pictures, we've used the play dough to create farm scenes, we've had a small world farm to play with. There have been lots of Julia Donaldson books to read and we've done really well completing some tricky jigsaws.
After half term we will be continuing to work with Julia Donaldson stories. In the first week back we will be reading 'Superworm'. If you would like to read the story please click the link below.
Have a lovely half term break. We hope the sun shines for everyone.
