week ending 24th May 2024

Hello and welcome back to this weeks class blog. This week we have been using the text A Squash and a Squeeze to help us with our learning. Let's have a little look at some of the lovely invitations to come and play and learn that we have explored this week smiley

We started the week off in class with a challenge. We used a timer to see how many letter sounds we could write in a number of minutes. Take a look at our collaboration. We love a good challenge in Reception W and we love writing on huge pieces of paper - great for motor skills! smiley

We looked at the different characters from the story and talked about how they would create a squash and a squeeze if you had them in your house. Imagine a cow inside. No wonder the old lady needed some help from the wise old man. Here we are in the creative area using chalks and pastels to create images of the characters from the story smiley

We also explored how artists use colours to show shade and light in their paintings. Here we are exploring colours and creating our own paintings to show shade and light smiley

As we continue with our Julia Donaldson themed half term we have take each week an extract of the story we are learning about. We have then used our skimming skills to scan the text for letters - like a letter detective. This week we have used an extract from A Squash and a Squeeze and been hunting for sounds. Here we are in action smiley

We have also been practising our Read Write Inc skills this week. We love to read and what better way then using the animals from the story to create random words that we had a timed challenge to read. We are able to use our Fred talk skills in lots of different areas of the classroom and the children love to show their friends how many words they can read smiley

In Maths this week it has been all about shapes. We have been exploring how smaller shapes can fit inside of a larger shape and how we can use shapes to create pictures. Here we are exploring and talking about shapes and making pictures smiley

We also continue to explore our musical knowledge and talents. We use Charanga to help us learn about music and instruments and this week we have been learning all about tempo. Here we are exploring tempo using instruments yes

And finally here is a quick round up of other things we have enjoyed in class this week. We hope that you have a wonderful and restful half term and we can't wait to join you again ready for our final half term in Reception - can you believe it? crying

After the half term we will continue our learning about Julia Donaldson and we will be exploring texts such as Monkey Puzzle, Tiddler and Tabby McTat.
